For gyms and fitness studios, clean towels aren't a nice extra. Members notice the moment the rack is empty. But towel laundry is heavy, constant work, and it adds up quickly at busy times. Here's how GTA gyms handle it, and when it makes sense to outsource.
Why Towel Laundry Is Harder Than It Looks
- Volume spikes at peak hours. Early morning and after-work rushes can empty a towel rack fast.
- Damp towels sit. Sweaty, damp towels left in a bin start to smell quickly.
- Staff time. Every hour a front-desk employee spends folding towels is an hour not spent with members.
- Machine wear. Small commercial or home-style machines often can't keep up with daily volume.
In-House Laundry vs a Commercial Laundry Service
In-house laundry can work for very small studios, but you take on the cost of machines, repairs, water, power, detergent, space and staff time.
A commercial laundry service takes towels off your plate. With The Laundry Centre, businesses get a recurring pickup schedule and custom per-pound pricing, so you can plan your towel stock around regular pickups.
Tips to Keep Your Towel Supply Under Control
- Count your towels and track how many you go through on your busiest day.
- Keep enough stock to cover the time between pickups, plus a buffer for busy weeks.
- Use ventilated bins for used towels so they don't sit damp and sealed.
- Separate heavily soiled items like cleaning rags from member towels.
- Review volume regularly and adjust your pickup schedule as membership changes.
